Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Construction in Green Bay has begun! The Green Bay Blizzard have started building their 2005 squad by signing seven players to af2 contracts, including a 3-year Arena Football veteran.

Prior to the 2004 season, OS Lawrence Pullen (5-6, 175 Stephen F. Austin) was the all-time leader in kick return touchdowns in af2 history. After taking off most of the 2004 season, he is ready to get back in the game. "I'm glad to be reunited with ‘Shorty,'" said Blizzard Offensive Coordinator Rod Miller. "He's actually the first player that I ever recruited from Texas, back in my first year in the af2 (2000). He was good back then, but he's even better now, and he's going to be a big help in our kick return game since Chris Martin went to the Canadian Football League." Pullen has played for several other af2 teams, including the Carolina Rhinos and Jacksonville Tomcats. In 2004, he played 2 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers and one for the expansion Rio Grande Valley Dorados before returning to his home in Waco, Texas.

Pullen also spent some time with the AFL's L.A. Avengers, so the Blizzard is confident in his abilities. "Shorty's been around for a long time," said Miller. "We're going to have some young guys this year, so his experience and leadership are going to be just as important as his skills."

The Blizzard have also re-signed DS Kenneth Williams (5-11, 190 Arizona State), who was originally signed by the Blizzard in 2004 before suffering a season-ending knee injury on the first day of training camp. "We had big things planned for Kenneth last year," said Blizzard Head Coach Bob Landsee. "We've got big things planned for him this year."

Williams is as thrilled to be back with the Blizzard as they are to have him. "Everyone at the Blizzard has been great," said Williams. "The coaches kept in touch with me all year to see how my rehab was going. I'm glad to be coming back."

Williams, who relocated to the Fox Valley with his family after being signed last year, also said that his rehab is well ahead of schedule. "I think I'm about 85-90% of where I was [before the injury]," he said. "I've been doing some running, and I've even started making some nice cuts. Camp doesn't start until the middle of March, so I've got plenty of time to shake off the rust."

In addition, the Blizzard have also signed three OL/DL, Antwan Lawrence (6-2, 285 Grambling State), who played with the rival Louisville Fire in 2004, Scott Pospisil (6-2, 280 Iowa), and Joe Valdova (6-2, 310 Edinboro), and two WR/DBs, Randee Drew (5-9, 185 Northern Illinois) and John McClain (6-0, 200 Grambling State).
