Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: December 15, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are delighted to announce they have been assigned quarterback Brian Baker by the af2 for the 2005 season.

"Brian is a big strong quarterback that learned the af2 game last season and completed close to sixty percent of his passes," said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. "He will be a great asset to have on our team since he knows the game, and it gives us two quarterbacks with af2 experience."

Baker does bring size to the QB position with a 6'5" 240-pound frame. He comes to the Dorados after spending last season with the Fayetteville, North Carolina based Cape Fear Wildcats of the af2. In six games, Baker compiled a 111.6 quarterback rating, completing 16 of 27 passes (59.3%) for 133 yards and five touchdowns.

The Loganville, Georgia native was a college standout at Div. I-AA Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) from 1998-2001 and holds 15 Governors football program records. As a sophomore in 1999, Baker became the first APSU quarterback to throw for 2,000 yards in a season (2,809). Baker closed out his college career as the Governors all-time leader in career passing yards with 5,587 and completed 490 of 838 passes (58.5%). The health and human performance major also threw 48 touchdowns over his college career. Prior to attending APSU, the 24 year-old Baker was an All-County baseball and football member at Loganville High School.

The assignment of Baker to the Dorados 2005 roster gives the squad their sixth player, joining John Bradley (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), Joseph Lemberg (OS), David Morrill (FB/LB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL). Some players from last season's squad have already been assigned elsewhere and they are Preston Hartfield (New Orleans - AFL), Raymond James (Florida - af2), Eddie Moten (Philadelphia - AFL), Caleb Slover (Birmingham - af2) and Manwell Talbert (Macon - af2).
