Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Green Bay Blizzard has broken new ground with the tape-delay broadcasts of their home games on Time Warner Cable, and the response from fans has been nothing but phenomenal.
Since the 2-hour program began airing after the season-opening 49-41 win over the Albany Conquest on Friday, April 8th, "Blizzard Football" has been the single highest requested show on all of Time Warner Cable's local "On Demand" programming.
"We thought the Blizzard games would be popular on our local On Demand Channel 998, but when it was the most viewed show of the week, even we were surprised," said Bill Harke, Time Warner Cable's Manager of Public Affairs. "Usually you see the shows that have been on a little longer and have received some positive word of mouth at the top of our weekly list."
The positive response was expected by the Blizzard front office, but this comes as a surprise even to them. "During the off-season we had a lot of people ask us if our games were going to be broadcast, so we knew that there was a demand for the games to be aired," said Blizzard Director of Operations Elvis Ahlborn. "But to have our first game debut in the top spot is something else. Our fans have always been loyal, but this really goes to show how great they are."
Blizzard General Manager Jim Kraft agreed. "The response to the games has been fantastic. This is an excellent way to introduce ourselves to people who might not be familiar with who we are. Arena Football is such an exciting game that you have to see it to believe it, and this is a great way for people to see how much fun our games are."
The positive response to the games is not limited to just the fans, either. "Our sponsors are very excited about their signage appearing in thousands of homes," said Kraft. "They get excellent extra exposure when their commercials run on the Resch Center MegaVision, when their promotions are seen by the viewers, and especially when the replay shows the dasher board logos up close."
If current ratings are any indication of how future Blizzard games will be received, fans can look forward to the broadcasts being even better as the season progresses. "We're looking at having play-by-play and color commentary added for our remaining games," said Blizzard General Manager Jim Kraft.
Blizzard games can be viewed on Time Warner Cable's "On Demand" by tuning in to Channel 998 and selecting "Blizzard Football" from the "Sports" menu. To become a Time Warner Cable subscriber, call (920) 496-2040, or log on to www.timewarnercable.com.
