Fire Ready For First Place Show Down at Wilkes-Barre

SHOWDOWN FOR FIRST; #3 vs. #4... Tomorrow night the Fire (2 – 0), ranked fourth in this week's coaches poll, will square off against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (3 – 0), ranked third in this week's coaches poll, with the winner claiming sole possession of first place in the East Division. Last season these two teams split a home and home series with each winning at home. Wilkes-Barre defeated the Fire 59 – 51 on May 1 in Wilkes-Barre and the Fire one on Anthony Payton's hail marry catch 48 – 47 on May 29. Kick off is set for 7:00 P.M. and you can here all of the action on 1080-WKJK with Paul Wilman. The Fire is looking for their second straight 3 – 0 start.

FIRE WINS ON KICK... It took every second of the game last Friday to finally decide the outcome but the Fire came away with a 48 – 46 victory over South Georgia, as Danny Kight's 42 yard field goal found the inside corner of the right upright to give the Fire their second straight win and third straight home victory dating back to 2004. South Georgia went ahead with seven seconds to play on a two point conversion. Tony "the Tiger" Stallings would set-up Kight's field goal with a return to mid-field. Stallings was named US Army Ironman of the Game and Fire defensive specialist Rob "3D" Green was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

STEELDOGS COMING TO TOWN... Next Saturday night the Birmingham Steeldogs will visit Freedom Hall at 7:30 P.M. Kids t-shirts will be given away at the game and once again kids can enjoy the Meijer/Big Red Kids Zone. MOVIN' ON UP... After spending one week at number five the Fire has moved up to fourth in this week's coaches poll. This week's opponent Wilkes-Barre is ranked third in the poll. The Florida Firecats maintained the number one spot for the fourth straight week. The entire poll is as follows:
