Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Kamloops Blazers took 2 of 3 from the Kelowna Rockets this past week to improve their record to 30-27-2-3...moving them to within a single point for the 4th and final playoff spot in the BC Division. Here's how the week went:
February 14th @ Kelowna
The Kelowna Rockets were afforded the first 7 powerplays of the game, scoring 3
times to break open a 1-1 game and hang on for a 5-3 win over the Blazers on Tuesday
night at Prospera Place. Myles McRae and Roman Tesliuk traded goals in the first 12
minutes before referee Andy Thiessen called the Blazers for 7 consecutive
shorthanded situations, including three consecutive 5-on-3s. The Rockets scored 3
powerplay goals in 4:44 to close out the first period with a 4-1 lead. In the
second, McRae's second of the game bumped the lead to 5-1 before Brock Nixon picked
up a couple of powerplay goals of his own, his 19th and 20th goals on the year, to
cut the lead to 5-3 after 40 minutes. The Blazers, despite holding numerous chances
to score, could get no closer in the third period. Final shots were 34-25
Blazers...including 28-9 in the final two periods. Derek Yeomans earned the win
while Devan Dubnyk suffered the loss. The Blazers were 2-for-7 on the PP...Kelowna
was 3-for-9 with the extra-man.
February 17th vs Kelowna
Brock Nixon, Reid Jorgensen, and Moises Gutierrez combined for 3 goals, 8 points,
and +8 rating as the Blazers blitzed the Rockets 5-1 on Friday night at Interior
Savings Centre. Scott Skrudland scored his second of the season 3:12 in...with
Nixon doubling the lead just 44 seconds later. Gutierrez added a shorthanded goal
late in period one for a 3-0 lead. The Rockets cut the lead to 3-1 on an Alex Edler
powerplay goal before TJ Mulock put the Blazers back in front by 3 just 20 seconds
later. Reid Jorgensen closed the scoring with a late second-period tally as the
Blazers shut things down in the third. Final shots were 30-27 Blazers...Devan
Dubnyk got the win while Derek Yeomans played 40 minutes in the loss. The Blazers
were 0-for-6 on the PP...and 5-for-6 on the PK.
February 18th @ Kelowna
Brock Nixon scored twice, including once shorthanded, as the Blazers knocked off the
Kelowna Rockets for a second straight night...this time by a 3-1 count at Prospera
Place on Saturday. Ashton Rome, with his 25th, opened the scoring 5-and-a-half
minutes in, with Nixon adding his 22nd in the 2nd period and 23rd in the third, as
the Blazers built a 3-0 lead early in the third. The Rockets got one goal back via
the powerplay. Final shots were 27-23 Rockets with Devan Dubnyk getting the win and
Derek Yeomans taking the loss. The Blazers were 0-for-7 on the PP and 6-for-7 on
the PK.

TIP-A-BLAZER DINNER THIS WEDNESDAY! The Kamloops Blazers will be holding their annual Tip-A-Blazer Dinner on Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8pm at The Keg Restaurant. Blazer players will be acting as servers for the night and all tips received will go towards the Kamloops Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
