OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- The Wichita Thunder lost 3-1 to the Oklahoma City Blazers on Thursday night at the Ford Center. The Blazers scored three goals in the first 9:39 of the game and never looked back. Jason Murfitt redirected a shot past John Daigneau at 5:26 on the power play with his back to the net to open the scoring. Robin Gomez scored on a one-time pass from Brian Passmore at 6:31, beating Daigneau to the long side of the net. At 9:39, Bill Vandermeer snuck one behind Daigneau for the Blazers' third goal of the night, and second on the power play.
Joel Hanson cut into the lead at 15:29 in the first on the power play, getting assists from Brad Thompson and Curtiss Patrick who traded passes across the slot before Hanson found the back door. The Thunder however could not manager any further goals.
Daigneau saved 33 of 36 in the tough loss, while Doug Groenestege improved to 5-0 against the Thunder saving 21 of 22. Wichita went 1 for 6 on the power play, while going 3 for 5 on the penalty kill.
Wichita next plays Friday night in Bossier-Shreveport with a 7:05 p.m. match against the Mudbugs.
