Blazers Sign Jason Murfitt

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forward Jason Murfitt, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Murfitt, a 6-0, 200-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario, joins the Blazers after playing four seasons at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. In four seasons with the Valiants, he recorded 126 points (53-73-126) in 106 games. Murfitt ranks ranks first in Valiant history in every career offensive category including goals (53), assists (73), points (126), power-play goals (18) and game-winning goals (13).

The 2005-06 season was his most productive. He recorded 43 points (16-27-43) in 27 games en route to ECAC West Player of the Year honors. Murfitt also excelled in the classroom, earning ECAC West All-Academic Team honors twice.

Prior to playing at Manhattanville College, Murfitt skated in four seasons with the Cumberland Grads in Central Junior Hockey League. With the Grads, he was a three-time CJHL All-Star and he led his team to three straight playoff appearances. Murfitt is the Grads' all time career assist leader with 148 and ranks fourth in scoring in team history with 205 points (57-148-205).

"Jason is just the kind of player that we need to add to our roster," said Sauter. "He has excellent size, can skate and has shown that he can compete. I believe he will fit in nicely in our scheme for the coming season."

Murfitt is the third player signed by the Blazers for the 08-09 season. He joins defensemen Stacey Bauman and Justin Sawyer on the Blazers roster.

The Blazers 17th season of play commences October 17 at the Ford Center. The CHL plans to release the complete schedule in the coming weeks.
