Blazers "Read to Me Day" a Success

November 20, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
West Virginia Blazers News Release

Bluefield, WV. The ABA West Virginia Blazers spread out through three West Virginia counties and read to young students as part of "Read to Me Day." Here's a report from one of our players, Brian Kidd, now a Minister and substance abuse counselor, formerly the All-Time leading scorer at Mountain State University.

"I went to Daniel Elementary School around 11am and things went great. I autographed 28 books for the Pre-K Class and read a book to them as well. Then, I moved over to Mr. Lester's 5th Grade class. The excitement was so high that another teacher brought her class also, so I had a big group. Mr. Lester may be calling you soon in regards to a fundraiser for their school trip to Washington, DC. They seemed very excited. The kids asked multiple questions and rest assured, they know where we will be playing. The students were so happy to meet a professional basketball player. Of course, some had to let me know that they played ball. Mr. Lester seemed very excited and I feel he will be a fan. One teacher asked if we do anything in Summers County like fundraisers." The ABA - More than Just a Game. For more information, visit www.wvblazers.com or www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
