July 17, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
West Virginia Blazers News Release

Bluefield, WV. On July 10th and 11th, members of the ABA West Virginia Blazers helped the American Cancer Society raise over $150,000 working with the Relay for Life. But you didn't see the Blazers walking in the Relay and the you didn't see them in the limelight. Instead, the Blazers wanted to help by volunteering to use their strengths to help with the even in other ways.

Members of the Blazers started at 10am on July 10th to set up tents for many teams participating, pick up and carry blocks and sand for set up, and run errands for the Relay Coordinators. They worked tirelessly to help set up in any way they were needed. They then went back at 5am Saturday morning, July 11th to help take down the setups used during the event. "You should be extra proud of these young men," said Pat Davis, Coordinator of the Raleigh County Relay for Life. "They were super to work with and a tremendous help."

"What a great feeling to know that our guys are making a difference in the community off the court," said Cindy Preast, WV Blazers General Manager. "The Blazers will continue to be involved in community activities and are proud to be associated with efforts to raise money for the American Cancer Society."
