Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed veteran forward Bryan Forslund, the club's front office announced today.
Forslund, a 6-0, 190-pound native of Sherwood Park, Alberta has skated the last six seasons in the East Coast Hockey Leauge, splitting time between six teams. He began his professional career with the Tulsa Oilers in 1995, playing two seasons with the Oilers. The veteran of 536 professional games has amassed 391 points (162-229-391) while serving 754 penalty minutes. In two seasons of play against Oklahoma City during the 1995-96 and 96-97 seasons, Forslund scored 15 points (8-7-15) and served 48 penalty minutes. Included in Forslund's eight goals against Oklahoma City is a four-goal effort on February 9, 1996, one of just four, individual four-goal games scored against Oklahoma City in franchise history.
Forslund is the second veteran player signed by Oklahoma City this season. He joins childhood friend Blair Manning as the other veteran player on the Blazers 2003-04 preseason roster. Each CHL team is permitted to carry five players with 260-or-more games of experience at the professional level.
"I am a firm beliver in the A.C.E. system," said Blazers head coach Doug Sauter. "A stands for attitude, C stands for character and E stands for enthusiasm. This accurately describes Mr. Forslund's approach to the game. Being re-united with his buddy Blair Manning will bring the Blazers lots of big goals."
The addition of Forslund brings the total number of players signed for the 2003-04 season to nine. He joins all-star Blair Manning, Ryan Campbell, Tim Laurila, Shane Fukushima, Justin Kot, Mike Lucci and goaltenders Boyd Ballard and Sean Connors.
The Blazers open their 12th training camp at the Blazers Ice Centre on Monday, October 6 at 10 a.m. The Blazers begin the regular season at home on Friday, October 17 against the defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings. Season tickets are available by contacting the Blazers office at 235-PUCK (7825).
