Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League announced today that they have re-signed forward Jason Campbell and added rookie defenseman Travis Bell for the 2003-04 season.

Campbell has spent his four-year professional career in Bossier-Shreveport and has recorded 212 points in 244 career games with the Mudbugs. Last season, he was the Mudbugs' third leading scorer with 51 points (25 goals, 26 assists) in 59 games and led the team with 196 shots on goal. In addition to his offensive skills, the Orangeville, Ontario native continued to be a team leader in faceoffs and penalty killing.

The 28-year-old Campbell was a member of the Mudbugs' 2000 and 2001 President's Cup Championship teams and was named 2001 WPHL Playoff Most Valuable Player after scoring 18 points in 14 postseason games. He has scored at least 20 goals in each of his four years with the Mudbugs and has averaged 53 points-per-season.

"The reason I'm coming back is the same as every other year and that is to win a championship, said Campbell. "This is my home and the community has been great to my family and I over the years, so I'm really looking forward to another season with the Mudbugs."

Travis Bell is the second rookie and first defenseman to join the Mudbugs for the 2003-04 campaign. Bell, a native of Calgary, Alberta, comes to the team from Cornell University where he spent four years with the Big Red of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Last season, Bell helped lead Cornell to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in 23 years as they finished with an overall record of 30-5-1. With Bell on the blue line, the Big Red were the nation's top defensive team (allowing just 1.36 goals-per-game) and had the top penalty killing rate (90.0%). The 5'9'' 190-pound defenseman also added one goal and six assists in 32 games last season.

"Travis is certainly a stay-at-home defensive defenseman and that's what we've been looking for," said Mudbugs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Muscutt. "He comes from a very highly respected hockey program in Cornell and everyone we've talked to has nothing but great things to say about him. Travis plays the game with a lot of passion and we're looking forward to seeing him in a Mudbugs uniform."

Season ticket packages for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are now on sale, including new discounted prices and special senior citizen, police, firefighter, and military packages. The team's home opener will take place on Friday October 24th against the Austin Ice Bats. For more information on the 2003-04 Mudbugs hockey season, please call 752-BUGS.
