Blaze Finish Up Day One In Denver
February 19, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze and the Colorado Crush participated in their first of two workout scrimmages today. It was the first time during the 2008 training camp that either team had the opportunity to practice against another opponent.
"To go against another team is really beneficial for us," OL DEVIN WYMAN (6-8, 350, Kentucky State) said after practice. "It is good for us offensive lineman to get that kind of work in before the season."
The AFL does not have preseason contests, which can be a key evaluation period for coaches. In lieu of the actual games, teams are allowed to hold these types of joint practices. Blaze head coach and general manager DANNY WHITE believes that evaluating players is difficult until scrimmages take place.
"It's tough until you go through these scrimmages," White said. "Now we are going live against other guys, not your roommate or your buddy. Some real separation occurs. You can really see who has it and who doesn't."
Clocks and game scenarios will be used in tomorrow's scrimmage. This will give the coaching staff for both teams the ability to coach and evaluate their team in game-like situations prior to the start of the season.
FANFEST SET FOR THURSDAY
The Blaze will host their 3rd annual FanFest on Thursday, February 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the EnergySolutions Arena. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Fans are invited to attend the event at no cost, and dollar hotdogs and drinks will be available.
