Modesto Nuts News Release

Bakersfield, CA. - Devin Burke turned in the Nuts' best start this season, but it was not enough to end the Nuts now seven-game losing streak with the Blaze defeating the Nuts in walk-off fashion, 3-2, at Sam Lynn Ballpark on Saturday night.

Burke (L, 5-6) worked into the ninth inning for the Nuts (4-11, 27-59), coming one strike out shy of his career-high. In the ninth, Burke allowed back-to-back base hits before loading the bases with a walk. Burke was removed for reliever Shane Broyles. Broyles first pitch to pinch-hitter John Tolisano was lined to left to give the Blaze (10-6, 55-31) the walk-off win.

Burke gave up three runs, two earned, in the tough-luck loss. The righty struck out eight, walked one and retired eleven straight batters from the fifth to the eighth innings. It was the longest start this year by any Nuts' pitcher.

The Nuts had tied the game in the seventh inning when Mike Tauchman ripped a solo home run to right, his third in eight games with the Nuts.

Ben Klimesh (W, 4-1) tossed a scoreless ninth for the Blaze with the aid of a double play to work around a one-out walk.

The Nuts will try to snap their seven-game losing streak on Sunday night in the third-game of the four-game set against the Blaze. A pair of southpaws will be on the mound with Jayson Aquino throwing for the Nuts and Wandy Peralta on the mound for the Blaze. First pitch is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:45 p.m.
