Blast Re-Sign Defender Sam Guernsey

May 24, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) - Baltimore Blast News Release

(Baltimore, MD) - The Blast and Vice President of Soccer Operations Mike Conway have announced today that they have signed defender Sam Guernsey to a three year contract. Per league and team policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Sam Guernsey, 26, enjoyed a productive first season with the Blast as he totaled seven points in 15 games with the Blast. He instantly became known by the fans through his back-flip celebrations after scoring goals. The former Cedar Rapids Rampage defender scored the game-winning goal against the Mississauga Metrostars in a 6-5 overtime thriller. His finest moment as a Blast player occurred during Game One of the Ron Newman Cup Divisional Round versus Utica City FC. Guernsey scored an emphatic scissor-kick past the Utica goalkeeper to tie the game after trailing by four at multiple points during the game.

Coach Danny Kelly stated "Sam's impact on the team grew as the season went on. He started to pick up what we were doing, and his work rate and versatility were invaluable. He also stepped up his performance at a critical time in the playoffs when we had injuries, and showed us more of what he's capable of. He's only going to get better in his role, wherever that may be". Sam Guernsey will be joined by former Cedar Rapids teammate Victor France to lead the Blast to another MASL Championship.
