Blast Fall to Heat 7-4

BALTIMORE, MD - The Blast looked to continue their winning ways as they entered the game on a two-game winning streak. This was the second game of a back-to-back as they beat the San Diego Sockers 9-5 in Baltimore last night. With the win, that put the Blast one game out the playoffs. Harrisburg holds the last spot. This was the first matchup between the Blast and Heat this season.

The first quarter was dominated by strong defense by both sides. William Vanzela and William Banahene exchanged save after save, while getting support from the backline. The Heat opened the scoring three minutes into the second quarter on a goal by Jerjer Gibson. Tavoy Morgan was able to capitalize on Vanzela coming to the front of the box to put the Heat up by two halfway through the second. Morgan netted his second goal of the game on a rocket past Vanzela.

Just as the game looked to be going all Heat, Vini Dantas put the Blast on the board with a goal in the final seconds of the half. The Blast would head into the half trailing the Heat by two goals.

The Blast made adjustments at the half and it showed early in the third. They connected for two goals in the opening three minutes of the quarter. Victor France pulled the Blast to within one on his third goal of the season. Twenty-five seconds later on a set piece from Jonatas Melo, Dantas scored his second goal of the game to tied it up. Just past the midway point of the third, William Eskay put the Heat back in the lead.

The Heat picked up the fourth quarter where the third ended and took a two-goal lead on a score by Dominic Francis. Morgan would go on to score his third goal of the game to complete his hat trick. The Blast would bring on Tony Donatelli as the sixth attacker to try to cut into the deficit. Dantas netted his third goal of the game and pulled the Blast back to within two goals. The Blast would put pressure on the Heat, but they were unable to capitalize. Danny DiPrima would end the comeback attempt on a long goal past Donatelli.

The Blast are back in action on January 30th when they travel to Orlando to take on the SeaWolves at 7:35pm. Then they travel to Rochester the next night to take on the Lancers at 7:00pm.
