
Blast Defender Wins Player of the Week Honors

Baltimore, MD - The MISL announced today that Baltimore Blast defender P.J. Wakefield has been named MISL Defensive Player of the Week after the Blast's 13-8 victory over the Milwaukee Wave Saturday night. The Blast jumped out to an early 4-0 lead Saturday night before the Wave tied the game and the teams traded leads until the end of the fourth quarter when the Blast scored three unanswered goals to advance to 2-0 on the season.
Wakefield, the Blast team captain, led the Blast's defensive effort Saturday night in the team's 13-8 win over the Milwaukee Wave. The 27-year-old defender recorded four blocks in the game and helped hold the Wave to four goals. Wakefield anchored a Blast defense that held the Wave scoreless for the first 35:57 of the game and the final 4:54 of the game when Baltimore scored three late goals to win the match. Wakefield leads the MISL with five blocks this season.
The League also named Tony Meola (New Jersey Ironmen) Goalkeeper of the Week and Enrique Tovar (California Cougars) Offensive Player of the Week.
The Blast will travel to Orlando this weekend for their first road game of the season - Saturday night, November 3 against the expansion Orlando Sharks. The Sharks (0-1) lost their MISL debut to the New Jersey Ironmen, 7-4, this weekend. The Blast will return to 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday, November 10, to host the Sharks.
