Blast Defeat Comets 4-3 in Double OT; Advance to MASL Championship Series

After defeating the Comets in Missouri on Thursday night the Blast returned home on Tuesday to battle for the Eastern Conference Championship. In a thrilling comeback victory the Blast would defeat the Comets in double overtime 4-3 to advance to the MASL Championship.

Both teams came out looking to control the pace and tempo of the game. No goals were scored in the opening quarter as the Comets recorded 5 shots and the Blast recorded 3.

In a very physical game the only goals scored in the second quarter belonged to the Comets. Leo Gibson and Vahid Assadpour recorded back to back goals to gain the lead. The Blast went into the locker room trailing 2-0.

At the 5:37 mark of the third quarter Max Touloute extended the Comets lead to 3. The Blast would get on the board when Adriano Dos Santos recorded his second playoff goal at the 12:11 mark. The Blast entered the final quarter trailing 3-1.

The Blast would battle back when Onua Obasi recorded his first playoff goal and then with 1:14 left to play Lucas Roque recorded the game tying goal off an assist from Tony Donatelli. This was Roque's third goal of the postseason and Donatelli's third assist. In a repeat of game one the Blast came back to force overtime. At the end of regulation the game was tied 3-3.

No goals were scored in the first over time as the Comets recorded 5 shots while the Blast recorded 4. The game headed into double overtime tied at 3.

After a Comets penalty, the Blast would score :40 seconds into double overtime as Lucas Roque recorded the goal that would send the Blast to the MASL Championship Series.

The Blast were led by offensively by Lucas Roque who recorded 2 goals on the night including the game tying goal and the game winner in double overtime. Tony Donatelli recorded two assists on the night. Blast goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 10 saves in the victory.

The Blast matchup against Soles De Sonora of Mexico in the MASL Championship Series. Game 1 will be in Baltimore Sunday, April 10th at 6:05p.m. EST from the Royal Farms Arena. Game 2 in Sonora will be Friday, April 15th at 11p.m. EST.
