Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - For the second week in a row, a Jackson General took home Southern League Player of the Week honors. Outfielder Jabari Blash hit .435 with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs over six games from May 11 to the 17 to win his second career weekly award in the Southern League. The announcement came exactly one week after Tyler Smith earned the honor on May 11.

Blash played in six games for Jackson last week, going 10-for-23 with two home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs. He played in six games and struck out just twice. He had three multi-hit games, headlined by his 4-for-5 effort on May 13 against Biloxi. He homered twice, including a grand slam in the ninth inning of a 14-10 loss for the Generals. Blash also had an extra-base hit in four of the six games he played in.

Coming into Monday's action, Blash led the Generals with four home runs and was tied for the team lead with 15 RBIs despite having played in just 12 games for Jackson. The native of the U.S. Virgin Islands started the year in Triple-A Tacoma before joining the Generals on May 1.

This is the second-straight week that a General has won the award. Tyler Smith hit .455 with 17 total bases the week prior to give Jackson its first weekly honor of 2015. The Generals did not have a Player of the Week in 2014, though two pitchers took home weekly awards for Jackson.

Prior to this season, Blash was the last player to win a weekly award for Jackson. The right-handed hitter won the award with Jackson in Augsut of 2013 as well.

After this 11-game, 10-day road trip, the Generals return home on Tuesday, May 26 for five games with the Montgomery Biscuits. That series is headlined by a Two-For-Tuesday (May 26), State Farm Agent Wes Harris Dollar Night (May 28) and Night of Heart with Fireworks (May 30) presented by the West Tennessee Heart & Vascular Center! Tickets for all five games are still available by calling (731) 988.5299, stopping by the park or going online to jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
