Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush, along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today that the team has signed defenseman Brad Zanon to a contract for the 2008-09 season.

Zanon, who made his professional debut with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL last season, becomes the sixth player signed by the Everblades for the upcoming season. The 25-year-old debuted in the professional ranks in 2007-08, playing in 14 regular season games with the Salmon Kings where he notched one assist and 19 penalty minutes. The Port Moody, British Columbia native also chipped in a pair of assists in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games last season.

Cameron said of the 6-foot-2, 207 pound defenseman, "Brad is a big, strong kid, who plays physical and provides good size in the defensive zone. He's the kind of player that uses his size well, plays tough and he will make life difficult for opponents."

Prior to debuting at the professional ranks, Zanon played four years of collegiate hockey from 2004-08 with the University of British Columbia. His best season came in his junior year when he posted 33 points (14g, 19a) and 76 PIM in 36 games which earned him a spot on the 2006-07 post-season All-Canada West Conference team. Zanon's point total finished tied for the team lead that season and his goal total led the club, marking the first time in the University's history that a defenseman led the team in goals. Overall Zanon notched 84 points (28g, 56a) in 137 games with the UBC Thunderbirds during his collegiate career.

Zanon, whose brother Greg plays for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League, spent five seasons playing at the junior level in the Western Hockey League leading up to his collegiate career. His top season in the WHL came in 2001-02 with the Tri-City Americans where he tallied 30 points (9g, 21a) in 71 games. During his WHL career with Tri-City and Kootenay, Zanon registered 95 points (23g, 72a) and 608 PIM in 328 games.
