Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades announced today that tonight's season-ending jersey auction will benefit two local charities. The festivities for tonight's auction of the Everblades' blue jerseys will begin at 6 p.m. in Breakaway Sports Pub at Germain Arena.
The money raised from tonight's auction will benefit a pair of charities the Everblades hold close to their heart. The first being the Piper Buckley Foundation, which was established after the passing of former Everblade Tom Buckley's daughter on Christmas Day 2009. The foundation was established to help raise money for the Lee Memorial NICU. The other charity that will benefit from the season-ending auction will be the Deb Kelsey Memorial Scholarship Fund which benefits Junior Everblades players who need financial assistance in order to play ice hockey and has been helping families since its creation in 2003.
Overall this year the Everblades held three different specialty jersey auctions that helped raise over $40,000. The first specialty jersey auction was the infamous holiday jerseys that were featured on ESPN. The jerseys were worn during the annual Teddy Bear Toss in December and raised just over $12,000.
The Everblades then held their annual Pink in the Rink weekend on February 18 & 19 and wore specialty jerseys that raised over $16,000 to help benefit local charities including Radiology Regional Center, the Cancer Alliance of Naples and the Cape Coral Relay for Life.
Finally during their three-game home stand vs. Wheeling on March 23, 25 & 26, the Everblades, thanks to Ferrell Gas, Purely You Spa and Waste Pro, wore specialty jerseys to coincide with their Going Green week. That auction raised over $13,000 for local charities.
