
Tyler Ruegsegger Re-Joins Aces

Alaska Aces forward Tyler Ruegsegger has been returned to the team from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Wednesday. Ruegsegger and the Aces begin their post-season on Friday, April 15 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals against Idaho at Sullivan Arena. Ruegsegger, 23, finished the season with the Heat after being called up in mid-March. He registered assists in each of his first three games, and finished his AHL stint with five points (1g, 4a) in 12 games. His goal was the first of his AHL career, and was the lone tally in an Abbotsford 1-0 victory on April 4 vs. Hamilton. Ruegsegger was a huge addition to the Aces, registering 15 points (9g, 6a) in 23 games after being acquired mid-season from the Utah Grizzlies. The former University of Denver forward combined for 29 points (16g, 13a) in 58 games in the ECHL portion of his rookie season. The Lakewood, CO native is a former 6th round selection (#166 overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2006 NHL Draft. While with Denver, Ruegsegger finished third all-time with 28 power play goals. In his senior year, he finished second on the Pioneers with a career-high 41 points, while serving as an alternate captain. He was named to 2010 All-WCHA Second Team, and was a co-recipient of Denver's award for top scholar athlete in 2010, 2008, and 2007. He was named to All-WCHA Academic Team three times, and majored in business administration. Ruegsegger represented the U.S. at 2008 World Junior Championships, helping the club to a fourth-place finish. Prior to college, he won a national championship at Shattuck-St. Mary's in 2005.
