Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO - The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that it has signed forward Brent McDonald to a contract for the 2006-07 season. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

McDonald returns to the Everblades after spending last season overseas in the Swedish Division I League with Boras HC. The 26-year-old saw action in 43 games and tallied 35 points (21g, 7a) and 42 penalty minutes last year. 2006-07 will be the Olds, Alberta native's sixth in an Everblades uniform. During the 2004-05 campaign McDonald totaled 46 points (20g, 26a) in 62 regular season games with the 'Blades and also saw action in eight Kelly Cup Playoff games.

"We are thrilled to be bringing Brent back in this season." Everblades Head Coach Gerry Fleming said. "Brent adds a lot of experience to our club, both on the ice and in the locker room. He is well known in our community and we are really looking forward to having him back with our club."

McDonald's first season as an Everblade was his rookie year in 2000-01. The former 9th round pick by the Hurricanes in 1998, notched 22 points (11g, 11a) in 67 games that first professional season. The following season he raised his point total with the Everblades to 32 (12g, 20a) in 69 games and earned his first American Hockey League call up to Lowell for two games.

McDonald split the 2002-03 season between Florida and Lowell, tallying ten goals and adding four assists in 14 games with the Everblades and rounding out the year with 15 points (7g, 8a) in 52 games with the Lock Monsters. McDonald's best season as an Everblade came during the 2003-04 campaign when he reached career highs in goals (22), assists (33) and points (55) in 53 games.

"I'm really pumped about coming back." McDonald said. "As far as I was concerned it was an easy decision to re-sign with Florida, so I was real happy when I was able to reach a deal with Gerry and Craig (Brush)."

Prior to turning pro, McDonald spent five years at the junior level with Red Deer, Prince George and Spokane of the Western Hockey League. Overall he notched 204 points in 346 career WHL games.

McDonald is the eighth player signed by the Everblades for the 2006-07 season, joining Phil Aucoin, Ryan Brindley, Steve Czech, Ernie Hartlieb, Jon Jankus, Chris Lee and Andrew Martens.

The Florida Everblades open the 2006-07 season on Friday, October 20 when they host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena.
