Blade Tryouts Add Unique Twist to Pro Placement Camp

Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals announced Thursday that they will be holding tryouts for people interested in being the team's mascot, Blade, for the 2010-2011 season at the Fifth Annual Elmira Jackals Pro Placement Camp on Saturday, Sept. 4 beginning at 12:15 p.m. at the First Arena Recreational Rink.

"Blade is an integral part of the experience at Jackals home games," Jackals general manager Robbie S. Nichols said. "This is a great opportunity for someone with the dream of being the most popular mascot in the Twin Tiers."

This is a rare chance to be a mascot for a professional sports team. The team's only on-ice mascot, Jeremy Drake, recently retired after performing as Blade for the team's first ten seasons.

Those interested in being Blade for the upcoming season must be able to attend and provide their own transportation to all of Elmira's 36 regular season home games and both preseason games while being able to perform during pregame and intermissions on skates. A strong ice skating background is a must, and good physical fitness is recommended.

Participants must bring their own skates and must provide their own CD with a song to perform at the tryout. All songs must be appropriate and will be screened by arena staff prior to each performance. Fans will help choose the competition's finalists.

To attend the tryout, please click hereto download the tryout form and fax it back to (607) 733-2237. The deadline for entry is Thursday, Sept. 2. Those with questions may call (607) 734-PUCK (7825).
