Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

GREENVILLE, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have acquired left wing Igor Gongalsky from the Stockton Thunder in exchange for Jim McKenzie.

"Igor Gongalsky fills an important need on our team. He is a strong, physical, and tough left wing with a left-handed shot. He also has a strong presence around the net and can provide a spark offensively.," said Head Coach Dean Stork.

Gongalsky, 23, is entering his fourth season of pro hockey after spending each of the last three seasons playing for western ECHL teams. He broke into the league in 2007-08 with the Fresno Falcons and finished fifth on the team in points with 43 (18G, 25A) and third on the team in penalty minutes with 140. Gongalsky's next season was split between Fresno and Stockton where he recorded 30 points (10G, 20A) and 138 PIMs in 53 games between the clubs. He also earned his first promotion to the American Hockey League that season and spent six games with the San Antonio Rampage. The 6-0, 225-pound winger finished last season with 31 points (14G, 17A) and 71 PIMs for the Thunder. Gongalsky helped Stockton reach the National Conference Finals for the first time in last year's playoffs and recorded nine points (2G, 7A) in 14 playoff games.

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Gongalsky moved to Canada at age 13 and wound up playing three seasons of Major Junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. He spent two full seasons, and part of a third, with the Owen Sound Attack before finishing out his career with the Oshawa Generals. He played in 192 games over those three seasons and amassed 71 points (31G, 40A) and 270 penalty minutes. Gongalsky also participated in 27 playoff games and notched 11 points (6G, 5A).

McKenzie was one of eight players who were extended a qualifying offer by the Road Warriors this offseason. He played for the Johnstown Chiefs last season and recorded 40 points (16G, 24A) in 55 games.
