Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks hockey team opened a stretch of three straight road contests in St. Louis and Danville this past weekend. The weekend was tough on the Hawks as they dropped a 2-1 decision in St. Louis and 4-2 decision to Danville on Saturday. The Black Hawks will wrap up the road trip with a contest at Cedar Rapids on Wednesday.
Friday, March 12, 2004- St. Louis 2 Waterloo 1
Friday, the Hawks got out to an early lead versus the Heartland Eagles on a Garrett Regan (Hastings, MN) power play goal late in the first to lead 1-0 after one. St. Louis countered with a power play goal in the second to tie the game at two after two. The Heartland Eagles took their first lead of the game 26 seconds into the third with an even strength goal. St. Louis held on for the 2-1 win, despite Waterloo out-shooting the Heartland Eagles 50-25. Kevin Regan (South Boston, MA) stopped 23-25 in net for the Hawks.
Saturday, March 13, 2004- Danville 4 Waterloo 2
Saturday the Hawks traveled to Danville, Illinois to take on the Wings. Waterloo jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Josh Duncan (Rochester, MN) power play goal. Danville countered with a power play tally by Derek Patrosso late in the period to even the game at one. Waterloo battled back to take the lead on a Mike Radja (Yorkville, IL) power play goal to lead 2-1 after one.
In the second period the Wings posted a pair of goals five minutes apart to take the lead. Danville's rally was capped off by Patrosso's second power play goal late in the period to take the 3-2 lead after two. In the third the Hawks posted a furious rally out-shooting the Wings 11-6 in the third, but Danville added an empty net goal for the 4-2 win. Kevin Regan stopped 25-28 shots in net for Waterloo.
Waterloo is now in fourth place in the USHL's Eastern Division, two points back of Danville and one point ahead of the Green Bay Gamblers. The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday at Cedar Rapids versus the RoughRider's. Waterloo will then be home this weekend when they host Sioux Falls on Friday and Green Bay on Saturday at 7:05 PM at Young Arena. Tickets are still available, and Prices are $11, $10, and $8. The box office phone number is 291-7680. The Box Office will be open Wednesday and Thursday 11:30-5:30, and Friday and Saturday 11:30- game time.
