Wings have big weekend
March 15, 2004 - The Danville Wings are in a tight race for a playoff berth and came up with two big wins over the weekend to help their cause. On Saturday night the Wings welcomed the Waterloo Black Hawks, who are battling the Wings for a playoff spot, into town and won 4-2. Derek Patrosso and Aaron McCloy provided all the offense the Wings would need by scoring two goals apiece. Justin Tobe was solid in net stopping 26 of 28 shots for the win. On Sunday afternoon the Wings hosted River City and came away with a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory. The Wings got goals from Jeremy Hall, Chris Anderson, AJ Panchenko and Tomas Klempa. Klempa netted the game winning goal in overtime by roofing a slap shot past River City's goalie. Justin Tobe again was solid in net and stopped 28 of 31 shots.
The Wings are now 25-23-7 and in third place in the east division two points ahead of Waterloo and three points ahead of Green Bay with five games remaining in the regular season. The Wings host Sioux City this Friday in their last regular season home game before finishing the year with four road games.
