Maryland Black Bears News Release
ODENTON, MD - The Maryland Black Bears looked to bounce back after being shutout in consecutive games by the Johnstown Tomahawks last weekend. And thanks to an overtime game winning goal by Jonathan Young, they were able to do just that with a 3-2 win over the Northeast Generals.
The Black Bears struck once in each of the first two periods. Daylon Mannon got the scoring started on a breakaway goal right after serving a two minute penalty. Mannon jumped on the ice, received a pass from Luc Salem, and slid it between the legs of Generals' goalie David Fessenden to make it 1-0. Patrick Choi made it 2-0 on the power play towards the end of the second period. Choi took a shot to the lower left side of the net on a two-on-one odd man rush and capitalized.
The Generals tied the game up in the third period with two goals. Louis Boudon struck first for the Generals, putting a wrist shot under the arm of Maryland goalie Anthony Del Tufo to make it 2-1. Dylan Schuett tied the game for Northeast at 2-2, lifting a rebound over Del Tufo just outside the crease. The game remained tied 2-2 after regulation time, sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, it was Black Bears' forward Jonathan Young who played hero. Young took the puck around Generals' forward Hunter Alden, who lost his balance, and went in one-on-one with David Fessenden with the game on the line. Young shot the puck low glove side to beat Fessenden for the 3-2 win on the only shot taken in overtime. Anthony Del Tufo recorded 28 saves in his first ever NAHL win.
The Black Bears return to action Sunday, January 20th at 7:00 P.M. ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in a rematch with the Northeast Generals.
