
Bjorn, Iceland Ready for WJC 2014

Wings forward #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) is joining his national team, Iceland for the 2014 World Junior Championships this weekend, as the B Pool begins play in Jaca, Spain.
Sigurdarson has been hot lately for the Wings, in the last 7 games he has scored six goals and four assists. Currently this season, he has 8 goals and 19 assists. The native of Iceland joins his national team for play in the Division II, Group B tournament which features other national teams such as Australia, Korea, China, Spain, and Serbia.
Though this world tournament is considered Division II, the pace of play and strategy is still at the international level. Teams will be playing on Olympic-sized rinks and will feature top players from each country in the pool. Some teams such as Serbia and Australia will dress some playing in semi-professional leagues.
The Iceland roster is made up of many playing in the Icelandic Hockey League. Bjorn is the only North American Hockey League player in the tournament. He also played for team Iceland in the 2012 IIHF U18 Championships.
"We are excited for Bjorn on being selected to represent his country at the World Junior Championships," said Wings head coach Travis Winter. "It's going to be a great experience for him and we wish him luck at the tournament."
Iceland is scheduled to take on Korea in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday, January 11th in Jaca, Spain at 1pm GMT (8:00am CDST). You can follow this tournament by checking this website periodically or by going to www.WorldJunior2014.com.
