Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON -- The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, today announced the signing of forward Matthew Kidney of the New Jersey Jr. Titans to a tender agreement for the 2014-2015 season. The tender agreement gives the Fighting Falcons Kidney's playing rights within the NAHL for next season.
Kidney, a 1997 birth-year, is the first player to sign a tender agreement with the Fighting Falcons for next season.
A native of Middletown, New Jersey, Kidney has played with both the U16 and U18 Jr. Titans teams in the North American Prospects Hockey League. In 14 games with the U16 team, Kidney was the Titans' second-leading scorer, and third overall among NAPHL 16U players with 38 points on 19 goals and 19 assists before being called up to the U18 team.
"Matthew is a good two-way player that has a lot of potential to make an impact at the next level," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. "There's a lot of talent in the NAPHL, and we hope Matthew can follow in the footsteps of other players that have come here from that league."
"We with the Titans are excited about Matt getting a tender offer from Port Huron of the NAHL," said George Haviland, the owner and General Manager of the NJ Titans. "Matt is offensively a force with soft hands and good vision, and he makes plays every time he has the puck."
Fighting Falcons forwards Noah Batis, Taylor Fernandez and Matt Jones, and defensemen Joey Lindberg and Lucas Little came to this year's team through tender agreements they signed last season.
The Fighting Falcons hit the road for a weekend series against the Soo Eagles Saturday and Sunday before returning to home ice to take on the second-place Johnstown Tomahawks Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18. Youth hockey players can get a $5 ticket to either game if they wear their jersey to the game. "Jackpot Friday" will also give one fan $1 per person in attendance at the January 17 home game.
