Published on June 15, 2005 under International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons have teamed up with the Niagara Military Affairs Council (NIMAC), the citizen group fighting the closure of the Niagara Air Reserve Station, First Niagara and the New York Power Authority to rally in support of the troops and the base at the Herd's game against the Durham Bulls on Sunday, June 26 ballgame at Dunn Tire Park (2:05 p.m.).
The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is on the federal Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission's proposed closure list. This rally is one day before the BRAC Commission is set to tour the base and hold a regional hearing on the closure recommendation at Kleinhan's Music Hall on Monday, June 27.
A brief rally in support of our fighting men and women who work at the Niagara Air Reserve Station will be held immediately following the Bisons game on Sunday, June 26.
"Let's show the BRAC Commission that Western New Yorkers are on base for their air base...a top performing air base that is vital to its community in terms of jobs, economy and homeland security should not be on the closure list," said Merrell Lane, NIMAC chairman.
For more information, please contact the Bisons Media Relations Department at (716) 846-2019.
NIMAC is collecting letters of support for the base to deliver in bulk to the BRAC Commission. Sample letters are available online at www.nimac.org. For more information, call (716) 283-4008.
