ALMOST TIME TO PLAY BALL
The Buffalo Bisons open up their 12-game Spring Training Schedule on Friday, March 16 against the Round Rock Express (Houston Astros) at Winter Haven , FL. The Herd will also play the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers) and the Richmond Braves (Atlanta Braves) this Spring before breaking camp on Sunday, April 1.
IN THE MEANTIME, HOOPS
The Bisons have announced that they will open up the Seneca St. Gate of Dunn Tire Park between sessions of this Thursday's NCAA basketball tournament. Starting at 4:00 p.m. on March 15, fans will be allowed into the concourse area of the ballpark where they can purchase hot dogs, hamburgers, beer, soda and other concessions. Updates on the entire tournament will be broadcasted throughout the concourse.
FINAL WORKOUTS
Bisons manager Torey Lovullo has scheduled two team workouts that will be open to the media. The team will make final preparations for the season at Dunn Tire Park on Tuesday, April 3 (2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.) and Wednesday, April 4 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.). Both practices are weather permitting and subject to change.
INDIANS PLAYER MOVE
On Sunday, March 11, the Indians optioned outfielder Brad Snyder to the Herd. Snyder, 24, spent the entire 2006 season with Double-A Akron and led the Aeros with 18HR and 72RBI. He also collected 28 doubles, 5 triples and 20 stolen bases to go along with a .270 (141-523) batting average. He is rated as the Cleveland Indians' 8th best prospect by Baseball America.
SINGERS, TAKE NOTE
The Bisons will hold their annual National Anthem auditions on Friday, March 23 (10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) and Saturday, March 24 (11:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.) at Dunn Tire Park. There will be singers performing every 10 minutes except for a half-hour break from 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. All singers must schedule times in advance by calling the Bisons at (716) 846-2080; no walk ups will be allowed.
HOT BAT FOR TRIBE
Outfielder Ben Francisco has had a very impressive Spring so far for the Indians. The Bisons Co-MVP in 2006 has hit .400 (10-25) with 2 doubles, a team-high 3HR and 5RBI. He also leads Cleveland with 21 total bases and is tied for the team lead with 6 runs scored.
