Today's Game:
The Buffalo Bisons host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the first game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is 0-2 so far this homestand, having lost a pair of games to Syracuse. Starting Monday, the Bisons will begin their first roadtrip of the season, traveling to Syracuse and Lehigh Valley.
New Name for Rival
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre baseball club has its third nickname in eight years. The team switched its name to the RailRiders this off-season. The team took the name of its parent club Yankees when it switched affiliations prior to the 2007 season. While affiliated with Philadelphia in 2006, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team was known as the Red Barons.
Bisons vs. RailRiders
The Bisons were 5-11 against the Yankees last season. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre enters tonight's game with a seven game win streak against the Herd. Buffalo has not won a season series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since Marty Brown's first tenure in Buffalo in 2005 (9-7).
What Brown does for us
MARTY BROWN is just 12 wins away from the Bisons modern era record. His 241 wins are shy of only Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famers Brian Graham (253) and Terry Collins (241).
On the Hill
RHP RAMON ORTIZ takes the hill for the second time this season. The righty struck out a Bisons' season high seven over five innings of a no-decision on Friday against Rochester. Ortiz allowed just two runs on four hits in a game eventually won by the Bisons, 3-2.
Great Start
INF JIM NEGRYCH was a perfect 2-2 with a walk and a double on Tuesday night. The Buffalo-native is now hitting .667 (8-12) on the young season with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Negrych has also drawn two walks without a strikeout, giving him a robust .714 on-base percentage and a 1.798 OPS.
Streaks
OF MOISES SIERRA has hit in all six Bisons games with a .409 (9-22) average to go along with a double and three RBI. Sierra has three multi-hit performances over his last four games...INF EUGENIO VELEZ has hit safely in all four games he's played in. Velez has posted a .368 (7-19) average and also leads the club with two stolen bases.
Toronto (3-5) erased a five-run deficit to defeat the Tigers yesterday, 8-6. INF EDWIN ENCARNACION had two doubles and scored twice while C J.P. ARENCIBIA drove home three runs. The rubber match for the Blue Jays and Tigers is today at 1:05 p.m.
