Today's Game

The Buffalo Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights in the first game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). This is the first game of an eight-game homestand against the Knights and the Indianapolis Indians. The Herd is coming off a 4-4 roadtrip.

On the Mound

RHP Claudio Vargas will make his team leading eighth start of the season tonight. The righty is 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA on the year after a no decision in his last start on May 13 in Louisville. Vargas has pitched at least six innings in each of his last six starts.

McGowan Joins Herd

RHP DUSTIN McGOWAN has joined the Bisons on an MLB injury rehab assignment. The righty missed all of 2012 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. McGowan pitched in two games for Single-A Dunedin this week and struck out four in two innings of work.

Negrych

INF JIM NEGRYCH leads all of baseball with a .400 batting average and is tops in the IL in on-base pct. (.459). He also ranks 3rd in the IL in doubles (14) and 5th in slugging pct. (.608). Negrych has reached base 62 times (48 hits, 14 walks) in just 31 games.

The Closer

RHP NEIL WAGNER earned his 11th save of the season on Thursday, which is tied for 2nd most in the IL. He has converted each of his save opportunities so far this year. In his last 12 outings (13.2 IP), Wagner has allowed just five hits while striking out 22. Righties are hitting just .108 (4-37) with 18 strikeouts and no extra-base hits against him.

Offensive Powerhouse

The Bisons continue to lead the International League in batting average (.287) and home runs (49). The Herd are tied for third in the league in runs scored (216) with IL East foe Pawtucket. On the last roadtrip, the Bisons scored 42 runs and hit 15 homers in eight games.

Bisons Bits

LHP JUAN PEREZ, threw a perfect eighth inning last night and has thrown scoreless baseball in each of his last six outings since May 3 (9.1 IP, 4 H, 11 SO)...RHP JOHN STILSON has been promoted from Double-A New Hampshire. The Blue Jays 2011 third round pick was 5-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 30 games last season. To make roster room, RHP CLINT EVERTS has been released by Toronto.

The Blue Jays (17-26) lost to the Yankees this afternoon, 7-2. INF EDWIN ENCARNACION hit his 12th homer of the year while OF COLBY RASMUS drove in the other Toronto run. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY goes for the Jays against the Yanks tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
