Moosic, Pa. - The Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A/Toronto Blue Jays) used seven doubles to help defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees) at PNC Field on Saturday night, 10-4. Mike McCoy recorded three of those doubles, and scored three times as the Bisons moved to within two and a half games of first place in the International League North division.

The game started off well for SWB, as they scored two in the second inning. With two outs, Thomas Neal ripped a double to left field. He came around to score when Bobby Wilson doubled down the line. Wilson was sent home on Alberto Gonzalez's base hit to left field.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added another in the third. Zoilo Almonte led off with a single, moved to second on a groundball out, and then scored on a single to right field by Dan Johnson.

Buffalo erased the deficit, and grabbed the lead with four runs in the fourth. Mauro Gomez led off with a walk, and moved to second on a base hit by Luis Jimenez. One out later, IL batting leader Jim Negrych doubled to left-center field, driving home both Gomez and Jimenez. Negrych scored on a double by Ricardo Nanita, and McCoy drove him home with his first double to left field.

The Bisons added another run in the fifth. Ryan Goins walked with one out, and later scored on a single by Jimenez.

McCoy hit his second double with one out in the fifth, and came around to score on a double by Mike Nickeas. The Bisons held a 6-3 lead after five and a half innings.

Josh Bell brought it back to a two-run deficit when he homered to lead off the bottom of the sixth for the RailRiders. It was his second homer for SWB.

Buffalo put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh. Moises Sierra led off with an infield single, and moved to second on a hit by Negrych. Following a walk to McCoy, the bases were loaded, and Nickeas singled home Sierra on a sharp single to left field. One out later, Goins singled up the middle to drive two more home, and give Buffalo the commanding 9-4 lead.

McCoy doubled for the third time in the ninth, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Gose.

Claudio Vargas (5-5) struggled early for Buffalo, but he ended up tossing six and one-third innings to earn the win.

Brett Marshall (5-5) was very effective in his first three innings, but allowed five runs over five total frames to pick-up the loss.

Game two of a four-game series will be played Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. Gates will open up at Noon on a Family Funday presented by NEPA Honda. Kids will be able to receive autographs from RailRiders players prior to first pitch, and will run the bases following the contest. Chris Bootcheck (5-1, 3.09) will go for his sixth win this season for SWB. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
