MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Boog Powell's two-run single capped a four-run ninth inning while Biscuits pitchers struck out a franchise record 20 batters in a 4-3 walk-off win over the Chattanooga Lookouts on Opening Night, Thursday night at Riverwalk.
The Biscuits entered the ninth inning trailing 3-0. Nick Burdi (0-1) allowed the first three runners to reach before striking out two.
Johnny Field Jr. then drew a walk to force in the first run followed by a walk to Tommy Coyle to make it a 3-2 game. Cole Johnson then entered the game to face Powell who hit a soft line-drive to center to drive in the winning run.
The twenty strikeouts the Biscuits pitchers total were the most ever and the most since the Biscuits struck out 18 in 2004 against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx. Jaime Schutlz struck out nine in his double-a debut while Bradin Hagens added nine punch outs through 3.1 innings. Parker Markel (1-0) struck out two in one inning to pick up the win.
The Lookouts broke a scoreless-tie in the fifth inning when Jorge Polanco drove in a run with a single. DJ Hicks followed with an RBI-single to make it 2-0. Miguel Sano made it a 3-0 game when he hit a towering solo home run to left center in the ninth.
Game two of the series is Friday night at 7:05. RH Austin Pruitt will throw for the Biscuits while RH Jose Berrios is on the hill for the Lookouts. Friday is Princess Night in celebration of Miss Gravy's birthday with All New MAX Fireworks Friday to follow the game.
