Biscuits Serve Shuckers, 4-1 to Tie Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (54-49/26-15) stayed in front of the Biloxi Shuckers (55-49/20-20) the whole way through as they defeated them, 4-1. Montgomery was wheeling and dealing on the mound thanks to starter Michael Mercado and some impressive from minor league stud Kyle Manzardo.
Biscuits Osleivis Basabe put the gears in shift early as he connected on a deep triple to left. Basabe was able to score as Kameron Misner hit a sac fly and the Biscuits were in the lead with just one out in the first inning. Manzardo was due next at the plate and was a few inches short of his first Double-A home run, but settled for a double that bounced off the wall. Third baseman Ronny Simon was able to drive Manzardo home on an RBI-single and grow the lead to 2-0.
In the second inning, Brett Wisely brought Diego Infante home and extended the lead to 3-0. Through four innings Biscuits starter Michael Mercado only allowed one hit as he kept the Shuckers batters in plight. Through six, the Shuckers were only able to record two hits on the Mercado as he was wheeling and dealing on the mound.
The Shuckers scored their first run in an eventful sequence of events. Biloxi catcher Jason Lopez found a gap in left field to score Cam Devanney. As Brent Diaz rounded third and was on the way home, Biscuits Infante put the ball on a tight rope to send Devanney back hustling to third base. Biscuits catcher Blake Hunt then made the impressive throw to third for Simon to tag him for the second out.
In the eighth, Montgomery was able to add on an insurance run thanks to an RBI-double from Manzardo. The hit would be Manzardo's third double of the evening and team-high for individual extra-base hits. Closer Jose Lopez secured the win anD save for the Biscuits as they tie the series.
Montgomery returns to action Thursday when RHP Sean Hunley (3-1, 3.79) faces Victor Castaneda (3-5, 3.71) for College T-Shirt Giveaway pres. by U.S Air Force & Thirsty Thursday at 6:35 PM CT.
