Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Montgomery Biscuits (41-34) scored five early runs and held on to top the Biloxi Shuckers (29-48) 6-4 on Saturday night at MGM Park.
Montgomery got to starter RHP Noah Zavolas (L, 3-6) in the top of the first inning when Niko Hulsizer hit a solo home run to left field, his fifth of the season. The Biscuits would chase Zavolas from the game in the top of the second, scoring four runs on four hits, a sacrifice fly and walk, extending their lead to 5-0 after one and a half innings.
The Shuckers struck back for a pair of runs in the home half of the second. Alexander Palma reached on catcher's interference to start the frame and moved to second on a one-out walk to Chad Spanberger. Luis Castro drove in the first run for the Shuckers on an RBI single to left and Garcia plated another run with an RBI groundout, bringing the Shuckers within three at 5-2.
Brice Turang kept the rally going in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to right field, his fifth of the season, to make it 5-3. Fry and Spanberger strung together a pair of two-out singles but were left stranded when Castro struck out.
The Biscuits answered with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning, moving back in front 6-3. RHP Jordan Brink (W, 4-0) entered in the fifth and worked a 1-2-3 inning. The Shuckers were able to put the lead-off man on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to push across a run.
Biloxi put together a furious rally in the ninth inning. After RHP Joel Peguero (S, 2) recorded the first two outs, but Aguilar reached on a fielding error by Jake Palomaki to give the Shuckers life. Turang followed with a walk and Mitch Longo drove in Aguilar with a slicing double to left, pulling Biloxi within two at 6-4. Palma stepped up for the Shuckers but bounced out back to the mound, ending the game.
The Shuckers conclude their seven-game series against the Biscuits on Sunday. RHP Carlos Luna (1-0, 1.80) takes the mound for Biloxi opposite Biscuits' RHP Jayden Murray (0-1, 6.14) for a 5:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9.
