Knoxville Smokies News Release
SEVIERVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Smokies (32-40) took down the Chattanooga Lookouts (39-35), 6-3, at Smokies Stadium on Saturday night. Carlos Sepulveda, Levi Jordan, and Tyler Payne all hit home runs for the Smokies in the victory.
Sepulveda's solo home run with two-outs in the bottom of the second inning off LHP Connor Curlis (L, 4-7) got the scoring started. It was Sepulveda's first home run since July 25, 2016. Lorenzo Cedrola's RBI single in the top of the third tied the game.
The Smokies took the lead for good in the fourth. After a two-out walk to Christopher Morel, Jordan hit a two-run blast, his fifth of the season, to give the Smokies a 3-2 lead. In the top of the fifth, Matt Lloyd led off the inning with a solo home run to cut the lead to 4-2.
Payne led off the fifth with a solo home run, his fourth of the season, to extend the Smokies lead to 4-2. Curlis then retired the next two Smokies before Nelson Maldonado singled to extend the inning, and his hitting streak to 11 straight. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Maldonado scored on Morel's RBI single.
Sepulveda led off the sixth inning with a walk, then moved to second on Payne's single. Both advanced on Delvin Zinn's sacrifice bunt. Sepulveda scored on Zach Davis' RBI groundout to run the Smokies lead to 6-2. Quincy McAfee led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to round out the scoring.
RHP Javier Assad (W, 3-5) earned his fourth quality start of the season. He allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings, he also had three strikeouts. RHP Erich Uelmen (S, 1) recorded the final outs for his first career save, he allowed one run and struck out five.
