Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (50-40) squandered a 3-1 lead in the fifth and fell to the Mississippi Braves (54-37), 9-3, in Tuesday night's series opener at Riverwalk Stadium.
Brendan McKay made his third rehab start for the Biscuits, and the lefty struck out the first two batters of the game in Justin Dean and Trey Harris en route to a one-two-three top of the first. Mississippi starter Alan Rangel (2-1) sat the Biscuits down in order in the bottom of the first, tallying a strikeout.
In the top of the second, Jalen Miller's RBI-double into the left-field corner brought home the game's first run and made it 1-0 Mississippi. McKay was able to wiggle out of a bases-loaded jam and kept the damage to a minimum. In the bottom of the second, Ford Proctor tied the game at one with an RBI-single after Ruben Cardenas led off the inning with a double.
After McKay kept the M-Braves off the board in the top of the third, Moises Gomez led off the bottom of the third with a double, and then later in the inning, Greg Jones brought home the right fielder with a broken-bat RBI-double to right to put the Biscuits in front, 2-1.
After Jordan Brink (4-1) came on for McKay and worked a scoreless top of the fourth, Proctor delivered another two-out hit-this one an RBI-double to left-that increased the Biscuit lead to 3-1.
Brink allowed a run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth, and then surrendered a grand slam to Drew Lugbauer in the same inning, making it a 6-3 game in favor of Mississippi. The M-Braves added two more runs off Brink in the sixth with a two-out RBI-double by Harris, and a two-out RBI-single by Braden Shewmake to make it 8-3. The M-Braves would add their ninth run on a Colby White wild pitch in the eighth.
The Biscuits will try to bounce back against the M-Braves on Military Wednesday presented by WOW! when Jack Labosky (0-3) takes on Spencer Strider (2-5) at 6:35 PM CT.
The rest of the first series will include Aviation Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, August 19; Princess Night - Celebrating Classic Movie Princesses on Friday, August 20; Outdoor Alabama Hunting & Fishing Night presented by Department of Conservation & Natural Resources with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, August 21; and Lil' Crumbs Kids Club presented by Go Fish Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, August 22.
