Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY -- The Montgomery Biscuits have renewed their player development contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, striking an agreement that will keep the Biscuits a Rays affiliate until September 30, 2010. The Biscuits have been a Rays affiliate since their move to Montgomery in 2004.

The Biscuits' record has improved during each of the team's four seasons, and the Biscuits have been Southern League Champions each of the last two seasons.

"We've been very pleased with the Rays in every way," said Biscuits owner Tom Dickson. "Their organization has been a joy to work with, and obviously, they've provided us with some pretty good baseball teams over the last couple of years.

"We're happy that the Rays have made this commitment to us. We're confident that this is the right match to bring great baseball to Montogmery for years to come."

During the Biscuits' four years in Montgomery, the Rays have sent 16 former major leaguers to play here and promoted another 22 to the major leagues. The Rays have sent first-round picks B.J. Upton, Delmon Young, Jef Niemann and Evan Longoria to Montgomery, among other top prospects. The Rays were also recently named Minor League Baseball's top organization by Baseball America.

"We're happy to once again renew our affiliation with the Montgomery Biscuits," said Rays Director of Minor League Operations Mitch Lukevics. "We've had a great working relationship, and we know the Biscuits provide an environment conducive to the development of our players."

All of Major League Baseball's 30 teams sign player development contracts with one team at each of the AAA, AA, Class-A Advanced and Class A levels. Teams and their affiliates are allowed to seek out new partnerships only after the expiration of their contracts.
