Birds Add Former Philly Prospect Arm
SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants manager Steve Shirley announced on Wednesday the signing of left-handed relief pitcher Austin Brough, who will vie for a roster spot with the Pheasants during spring training this May.
Brough, 24, spent two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization after signing as undrafted free agent. The Kanakee, Ill., native went 1-2 with a 4.79 ERA last season with two clubs at the Class A level.
The finish to Brough's 2012 campaign with the Lakewood BlueClaws was impressive with a 19-inning earned run scoreless streak in his final 11 appearances. He did not allow an earned run through the entire month of August.
Across 56 career appearances, all in relief, Brough has a 3-5 record with a 3.05 ERA. He pitched collegiately at Western Illinois University.
The Sioux Falls Pheasants begin their 21st season on May 16, 2013, and their home opener is May 17 against the Sioux City Explorers. Information about season tickets and advertising with the Sioux Falls Pheasants is available by calling (605) 336-6060 or visiting www.sfpheasants.com.
