Reno Bighorns News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Rod Benson scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds Tuesday night, leading the Reno Bighorns to a 109-82 victory over the Bakersfield Jam at the Jam Events Center in the lone preseason exhibition contest of the year.
Reno jumped out to a quick 17-point lead in the first quarter and the Bighorns never looked back, pulling away late with a 30-point effort in the fourth quarter.
In less than 22 minutes of play, Benson was 8-of-13 from the floor while dishing out three assists. Desmon Farmer, Reno's first-round draft pick, also scored 17, thanks in part to an 8-for-8 effort from the charity stripe.
Marcus Hubbard also registered double figures for the Bighorns, scoring 11 points and five rebounds. Russell Robinson led all players with five assists.
The Jam benefited from 17 points by Jared Newson and 15 points off the bench from Akeem Wright.
Reno shot 48.8 percent from the floor, while achieving an 82.9 percent success rate from the free-throw line.
Next up for the Bighorns is the 2009-10 regular season opener this Saturday. The Bighorns will meet the Idaho Stampede in Qwest Arena in Boise. Tip-time is scheduled for 6 p.m. PST.
Reno's home opener is set for Dec. 5, when the Bighorns take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the Reno Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with a magnet schedule giveaway among the highlights of the evening.
