Austin Bruins News Release
Two third period goals by the Austin Bruins (10-4-6), including one in the final minute silenced the engines of the Janesville Jets (13-6-1) Friday in a 2-1 Bruins comeback win at the Janesville Ice Arena.
In an evenly-played first period, Austin held a narrow shots advantage of 9-8 with no scoring. Bruins goalie Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) carried his play from last Saturday s win over Coulee Region into his next start, stopping all eight shots in the opening period. Jets goaltender Jared Rutledge (Skokie, IL - University of Michigan) stopped all nine and held strong in the second period.
On its second power-play of the night, Janesville broke the scoreless tie at 13:45 when Dan Kucerovy (Bethel Park, PA) jammed the puck in out of a goal-mouth scramble. The Bruins outshot the Jets 13-7 in the middle stanza, but were blanked again by Rutledge and were unsuccessful on three power-play opportunities.
A puck that seemed to bounce for 10 seconds eventually wound up on the stick of Bruins rookie Zach Kennedy (Eagle River, WI), who one-timed the game s tying goal past Rutledge with just over 16 minutes left in regulation. Then on a 5-on-3 man-advantage in the final minute, Josh Wilkins (Cary, NC) rang a wrist shot from the circle off the post for the game-winner with 30 seconds to play. Kielly won his second straight start, as he stopped 18 of 19 shots. Rutledge made 33 saves and took his first loss of the season.
The weekend series will wrap up Saturday night at the Janesville Ice Arena at 7pm. Then the Bruins return home to prepare for a road trip to Cloquet, MN for a weekend series against the Minnesota Wilderness next Friday and Saturday.
