Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - One of the areas the Amarillo Bulls were looking at improving was defensively and getting stronger inside their own end. Today the Bulls hoped they made a stride in that direction by acquiring defenseman Nick Le Sage from the Keystone Ice Miners in exchange for Captain and forward Mitch McPherson.

Le Sage, a native of Green Bay Wisconsin, had six assists in 17 games for the Ice Miners. The 6-2, 190 defender played last season with Port Huron and had five goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 57 games. He was plus seven and had eight power play helpers.

Le Sage grew up playing hockey with the Green Bay Jr. Gamblers organization. He then was selected by the former Texas Tornado in the NAHL Draft. Le Sage played his first full year of juniors with the Port Huron Fighting Falcons before that franchise was moved to Keystone.

Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger said Le Sage is an all around player that can not only run a power play, but be a big part of the penalty killing unit.

"We need to continue to improve our defensive zone play and with the addition of Nick, we feel that we are receiving a player that not only has skill but can protect the front of our net," said Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger. "In order to get a player of Nick's caliber, we had to move a player like Mitch McPherson.

"Mitch was a great player on the ice, but an even better captain off the ice. He has been a big part of our organization and we wish him nothing but the best in Keystone."

McPherson a native of Peoria, Illinois was in his second season with the Bulls after being originally acquired from the Lone Star Brahmas prior to the start of last season. In 16 games, he had 1 goal and two assists for three points. In 2013-14, McPherson played in 60 games and had 9 goals and 11 assists for 20 points and 59 penalty minutes.
