Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
Springdale, AR- Blake Johnson struck out five batters and Kila Kaaihue resumed his scorching hot hitting as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals topped the Corpus Christi Hooks 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.
In a brisk game that lasted just two hours and 21 minutes, Johnson (1-0) and three Naturals relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout of the Hooks, who came into Sunday's game batting .289 as a team, good for second in the Texas League. Naturals hurlers fanned ten batters and didn't allow a single walk. Richard Paz and Jose Lopez each had two hits for the Hooks, who grounded into three double plays.
The Naturals struck first in the bottom of the third, when Brain McFall doubled to center and was moved over on a single by Adam Donachie. McFall scored on a sacrifice fly by Ovandy Suero, who had two RBI on the day. The Naturals also manufactured their second run in the fifth, when Irving Falu walked, stole second, and scored on a double by Donachie. Suero plated Donachie with a single to center.
But the big bat once again belonged to Kaaihue (2-for-4, 4 RBI), who hit two more home runs off of Hooks reliever Ryan Thompson and nearly missed a third that hooked just foul. Juan Richardson (2-for-4) and Donachie (2-for-4) also had two hits for the Naturals.
Hooks starter Sean Walker (0-1) took the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits and walked three batters in five innings.
