DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves saw their largest scoring outbreak of the 2018 season in an 11-2 victory over the Elizabethton Twins on Thursday night at Legion Field.
The D-Braves offensive night was marred by three big scoring innings in the second, third and fourth innings.
In the third, Nick Shumpert geared back for his first triple of the season, breaking open the game to a 2-0 lead. Carlos Baerga added on a run with a double down the left field line, making it 3-0 D-Braves. Baerga continues to take advantage of his time in the starting lineup. The outfielder has gone 5-of-11 at the plate with a double to his credit.
At the helm of the fourth inning, Brett Langhorne plated three D-Braves with his bases-clearing double to right-center field. Catcher Rusber Estrada brushed across Langhorne to extend the Braves lead to 7-0 for his first hit in his professional career.
Justin Dean opened the home half of the fifth by roping a triple to right-center field. Andrew Moritz followed with an infield RBI single. Moritz is now tied for the team lead in RBIs with a .241 batting average.
After a Greyson Jenista walk and a wild pitch, Estrada hit in two more D-Braves to open up a 10-0 lead, capping his three-hit night.
Starter Ricardo Sanchez was strong through six innings. The product of Puerto Cabello, Venezuela allowed only one earned run through 93 pitches while striking out four Twins batters in his second rehab start in Danville.
The D-Braves hold two more games with Elizabethton on Friday and Saturday before hosting the Bristol Pirates from July 1-3. For more information about promotions or game time, visit dbraves.com.
