DURHAM, NC - The Norfolk Tides used two, five-run innings to defeat the Durham Bulls 11-5 Sunday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Norfolk has now won five in a row, while the Bulls have dropped five of their last six at home.
The Bulls offense got going in the first inning when Ray Olmedo worked a walk and Brandon Guyer followed with a single. Russ Canzler then crushed a 3-2 pitch from Tides starter Chris Tillman over the left-centerfield wall to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. The home run was the eighth of the season for Canzler.
The Tides struck back in the third inning when Jake Fox hit a three-run homer off of Bulls starter Brian Baker (5-4) to give Norfolk a 4-3 lead. Josh Bell followed next with his twelfth home run of the season to make it 5-3 in favor of the Tides.
The Bulls came to the plate in the eighth inning trailing 6-4 and put together a rally. Chris Carter singled to score Brandon Guyer to cut the lead to 6-5. Robinson Chirinos came to the plate next with the tying run on second in the form of Dan Johnson, but Josh Rupe struck him out and then got Leslie Anderson to pop out to end the inning. The Tides would go on to blow the game open with five runs in the ninth inning.
