Big Inning Topples Braves, 6-2

SCRANTON, PA-The Scranton/W-B Red Barons used a six-run 3rd inning to power past the Braves Sunday afternoon. Brandon Duckworth (1- 0) earned the win, as Chris Fussell fell to 3-3.

Travis Chapman got the scoring started early for the Red Barons with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. The Braves then answered in the top of the third, taking the lead on a Nick Green two-run home run. Damon Hollins added an RBI single to bring the score to 3-1.

Travis Wilson hit a long home run in the third to push Richmond's lead to 4-1. The Red Barons then sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the third inning plating six runs and taking a 7-4 lead.

The Braves cut the lead to two with a run in the top of the eighth, but the Red Barons answered in the bottom half of the frame to stretch the lead back to three. The Braves added a run in the ninth on a Johnny Estrada single to bring the final score to 8-6.

Brandon Duckworth picked up the win and Wayne Gomes earned the save. Chris Fussell took the loss, while Derrick Lewis and Billy Sylvester kept the score close for five plus innings.

Scranton/W-B and Richmond meet again Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lackawanna County Stadium. The game can be heard on WXGI AM 950 beginning at 10:45 a.m.
