Big Inning Again Powers Cowlitz Past Pippins, 8-5
August 4, 2023 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
Cowlitz scored seven runs in the first three innings Thursday en route to an 8-5 win over the Yakima Valley Pippins on Fan Appreciation Night at Yakima County Stadium.
The Pippins had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth after scoring a run when Spencer Shipman was hit by a pitch. But back-to-back strikeouts ended the game. YV, which lost its final four home games on the season, concludes the 2023 season with a three-game road series at Springfield, Oregon, which begins at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
After each team scored a run in the first, Cowlitz broke the tie with two runs in the second and four more in the third. The big blow was Marques Titialli's three-run homer, his third homer of the series.
The win was playoff-bound Cowlitz' ninth straight.
Julian Taudin-Chabot was excellent in relief of Ethan Salcheider. The Wagner righty tossed 3.2 no-hit innings and added three strikeouts.
Yakima Valley stranded seven runners in scoring position in the final three innings of the contest.
Zack Blaszak went 2-for-5 for the Pippins.
