Wenatchee Wild News Release
Wenatchee, WA. - The Wenatchee Wild returned home Friday night to host the Bismarck Bobcats, riding a three-goal second period to an impressive 7-2 win, in front of 3,586 fans at the Town Toyota Center.
Bismarck scored first with a major penalty power play goal, as Stanislav Dzakhov jammed one in. The goal was unassisted at 5:08, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. A nice tic-tac-toe play on a 5-on-3 power play set up Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York) for an easy tap-in power play goal for Wenatchee. Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, Nevada) assisted at 12:12, tying the game 1-1. Bismarck regained the lead on a Tanner Salsberry goal, assisted by Seth Blair at 16:32, for a 2-1 Bobcat lead. That lead lasted just over a minute. The Wild's Harris scored from Nuttle and Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), who fluttered home a shot from the right point at 17:57, tying the game 2-2.
Joseph Kaszupski (Henderson, Nevada) zipped in off the left wing and fired one home from the bottom of the circle, giving Wenatchee their first lead of the night. The unassisted goal, coming at 3:17 of the second period, put the Wild up 3-2. James Mathias (Ontario, California) filed home a rebound for an unassisted goal at 8:36, giving Wenatchee a 4-2 lead. Ahlgren then scored, this one on a screen shot from the blue line. Chris Jones (Normandy Park, Washington) assisted at 13:37, putting the Wild on top, 5-2.
In the third period, Newcomer Alex Rauter (Morristown, New Jersey) tipped one home at the left post, with the assist going to Nuttle. The power play goal, at 4:22, gave Wenatchee a 6-2 lead. The lead grew on a major penalty power play, as Nicholas Rivera (Pacific Palisades, California), stationed at the top of the goal crease, shot one home. Christian Salvato (LaVerne, California) got the lone assist at 9:14, stretching the Wild lead to 7-2, which ended up being the final score. "We got a lot of pucks to the net" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "We got traffic in front; our special teams were good, with very good goaltending. That's usually a pretty good formula. For us it's a real big win against one of the top teams in the league, that's a big win for us. Now we need to see if we can back up one win with another great effort tomorrow." On the large crowd, Littler remarked "The Crowd was outstanding. Outstanding."
Wenatchee outshot the Bobcats 38-27. Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 25 stops for the Wild, Aaron Nelson and Scott Albertoni combined for 31 saves in the Bismarck goal. Wenatchee was 3-for-7 on the power play and 7-of-8 on the penalty kill.
The Wild is now 19-17-4; Bismarck is 23-13-4.
Wenatchee faces Bismarck again tomorrow (Saturday) night with faceoff set for 7:05pm PST. The Wild then returns to Alaska to face Kenai River for three January 30th, 31st and February 1st, then Fairbanks for three more February 6th, 7th and 8th, before returning home to face the Soo on February 14th and 15th.
